Awesome summer deals this week!

>> Monday, June 25, 2012

After camping for nearly 2 weeks straight (phew, it's good to be home!), it was time I got back to my meal plan and did some grocery shopping. My fridge is now popping at the seams and it is nice to have something to feed my kids fresh not from a box. There were several great deals this week (that end tomorrow) if you have a chance to shop in the next 24 hours. There are great deals on many bbq favorites, meat to fill your freezer, salsa, cheese & many other staples for your food storage & pantry.

Here is the 'loot' I brought home for only  $123
(Remember..plan your meals for a 2 week period. Our Deals to Meals week's plan works perfectly for most family's for 2 weeks. I love not having to shop more than 2-3 times a month--HUGE savings when you can do that!)

You might get a kick out of this, but I went over my food budget this month on my trip to the store by about $70 (I know..major oversight). So I texted my sister's on my way home from the store and asked if anyone wanted to buy some groceries that could be dropped off at their door (who knew I was the Winder Woman?). By the time I made it back home I had sold off the $70 worth of groceries I had over spent, made my sisters day for not having to go to the store this week, and came in for the month right at my budget!  My husband laughed that I would go to such great lengths to stay on budget--I have to think deep down he was impressed. Not buying 30 lbs. of butter when it's on sale is against everything I believe in :0) Here is what was left of my loot, once I sadly sold my extra butter & chicken!

15 lbs. boneless chicken
3 lbs. bacon
3 loaves of bread
Cilantro
1 lb. jalapeno peppers
1 red onion
2 lbs. carrots
1 celery
2.5 lbs. red grapes

6 pkgs. tortillas
3 sour creams
2 (1 lb.) shredded cheese
2.5 lbs. ground turkey
12 jars of salsa
3 dozen eggs
Cauliflower head
2 lbs. peaches
3 mangos
1 pint grape tomatoes
2 lbs. roma tomatoes
4 lbs. gala apples
2 lbs. nectarines
2.5 lbs. red potatoes
2 bunches bananas
2 lbs. strawberries
1 leaf lettuce
3 lemons
6 red bell peppers
Garlic
3 lbs. onions
5 lbs. Barilla pasta
2 avocados
Steak rolls
10 limes
2 gallons of milk
10 ears of corn

I want to know what you made when you were camping. Ready for some new ideas

That's impressive to be completely careful about your shopping budget! Gotta love sisters! I do hope that when you were texting your sisters, you were NOT behind the wheel, driving.

So out of curiosity and to see if I'm doing the deals to meals correctly, or could improve, what is your monthly budget for food?!

were all of these groceries from one store or multiple? i would LOVE to know! you totally scored!

Leslie, I will totally blog about the food we ate camping. Great idea!

Don't worry I wasn't driving and texting ;) I'm not talented enough for that! haha

All of these deals were from the local stores here in Utah (about 14 total). I then price matched at Walmart. It was awesome!!

For my family of 7 I spend about $500-$600 a month. It changes depending how many food storage items I need to stock up on and what our meal plan looks like. Basically I spend about $150-$200 every 10 to 14 days. That does include all non-food items, toiletries and my food storage as well. Totally doable if you pay attention to the deals, plan your meals and don't buy 'extra' stuff like fruit snacks, cookies, chips, etc.

Thanks for your comments. I love them!!!

I usee my Deals to Meals shopping list for the first time since I joined a few weeks ago. I saved over $60.00 by price matching. The best deals I was able to get were the imitation crab at regular price $2.50 for only $.89, the next best deal was for nutella 26.5 oz. at regular price of $7.49 and I only paid $3.49 each, at 2 jars that is over $8.00 savings. It was awesome to walk out of the store paying less than 218.00. I bought the same things, but this time I was able to price match, usually the cost for two weeks is $350.00. Thank you so much for Deals to Meals, I reccomended your site to all my friends.

When you price match at Walmart, do you bring in the ads from all of the other stores?

I confess..... July 5, 2012 at 6:06 PM

I found that you do not need the ads, I did have my print out from deals to meals so if they need some kind of confirmation they had it. I also found that they have all the ads at the customer service counter.

The deal you got was virtually a loot! Congrats!

Out of curiosity and to determine if I'm doing hot deal to meals properly, or might improve, what is your monthly budget for food?!

Shandra July 19, 2012 at 1:36 PM

I spend $550-$600 a month on food. Some months a little less and some months a little more if there are case lot sales or food storage items on sale.

Hope that helps ;)
