This week's bargains!

How many of you have on your New Year's resolution list to cut back your grocery bill? I don't know many of us who always stick to their budget and spend exactly what they have allotted each month. I try to be really vigilant in this, but even last year I went over my budget an average of $75 each month. Not bad, considering that includes all of my huge case lot shopping trips, but I still am hoping to cut that back even a little more this year. There are few of us in today's economy that have an excess of money floating around to spend on groceries. If you are like me, you have a hundred other things you want to spend money on, other than groceries.

So, this year, let's all work together to keep our budget's under control, our grocery shopping trips to a minimum and save money so we can do super-duper fun things this year like vacation, more family outings, save money for a rainy day, etc.

How do you save money you say?? Well, Deals to Meals of course! :) Besides not wanting to spend a lot of money on groceries, many of us probably have goals to spend more time with our families. This means we need to spend less time looking through ads, grocery shopping, cooking, etc. Our service helps you save time doing all of these things as well!

Today I logged into Deals to Meals at 10:10, went through the weekly meal planner, chose those meals I wanted to make for the next 10 days, and then clicked on the items from the weekly deals that I needed for my menu planner (plus a few extras like eggs, yogurt, bread, etc.). I printed off my list and was out the door driving to Walmart by 10:30. Price matching is a breeze using our Deals to Meals sheets, I got all of the items I needed that were on sale (mostly cereal this week...we were completely out. Ah!), produce and meat for my meal planner and were back home in less than one hour.  I saved over $50 at Walmart and was back home to get my son off to the bus for Kindergarten. Now that is saving time!! I even threw dinner in the crock pot with my thawed chicken and voila! Shopping is done, I saved a lot of money, dinner is cooking and my husband will be a happy camper that I will stay within my budget this month! A win-win for everyone.

Here is my 'loot' I picked up today at Walmart doing my twice a month shopping trip. Cereal, cheese and chicken were my main stock up goals this week. Thankfully they were all on sale, which made for a fun and successful shopping trip. Yay!

PLEASE email me if you have any questions about how our service works. I know I need to do a video tutorial to help people know how it works but with 5 kids, running this business, there is little time to breathe, let alone make a video. So, please know you can email me with any questions you many have about our service. I am here to help you save money any way I can! (Shandra@dealstomeals.com)

I'd like to know how you do the price matching... I always assume I have to go to a million different grocery stores to get all of the good deals, but it sounds like you can do it all at Walmart?

Can you price match store brands to stored brands for things like milk, cheese, butter, eggs, etc. We can't in Las Vegas and it makes it hard to get the great deals.

In regards to your comments on budgeting, do you ever think about having vegetarian/vegan meals a few times a week? Seems most of what you make has some type of chicken, meat, or cheese in it, even the soups. Not complaining or criticizing. Just wondered if you thought about it and if you think you would realize an even greater savings from doing that.

What was the price match price on the Kellogg Frosted Mini Wheats and Cracklin Oat Bran? I am a member and tried to find it in the system but all I can find is a sale on Kellogg Special K cereal, can I price match any Kellogg cereal to that?

Yes, you can price match most everything at Walmart. They will match the price of any name-brand item as long as it is the same exact item...sizes and everything. However, if they don't have the name brand item, just use the Walmart store brand "great value" as that will work too. It's great when you can go to one store and have 80-90% of your items in the cart ad matched.

Happy shopping!

Yes, price matching is SO great and super simple. Just login to our site, click on the items you need to purchase, find those same items at Walmart and let them know how much and where they are on sale. Store brand items can be price matched for their Walmart brands. We have several tips on our blog you can check out to make things easier.

As far as the cereal goes, sadly that was Monday and the ad prices changed on Wednesday morning. I believe other brands were on sale this week, just do a search for cereal on our site and they should pull up if there are any.

As far as vegetarian meals, I would LOVE it if you could send me some of your favorite recipes. I am always on the lookout for more healthy recipes and would love to incorporate more of these. Our family always has 1-2 vegetarian meals a week and that's how my menu planner can last for 10-14 days because I intermingle other recipes that can help stretch our budget.

Thank you for your comments ;)

And yes, our Walmart's do allow us to price match on butter, milk, etc. That would be hard if your Walmart in Las Vegas do not. I am sorry! Maybe make sure and talk to a manager, Sometimes the cashiers all have their own opinions on what they can and can't do.

I try to spend $50 per week for our groceries. There are 3 of us. I am also a Mormon blogger - there are 3 of us that do our website!

I tried to price match Kroger brand with their great value brand and the cashier called over the manager and she pulled out their price match policy and it said right there in there policy that you can't get there store brand another store brand. It has to be exactly the same product... So I said "so you can only price match brand name items, no genaric brands and she held up the policy and said yep that's want it is saying." I was soooo irritated, because I had gotten there brand in place of other store brand items several times before! There making it harder and harder to price match. PS- I'm in ID, so it's not just happening in Vegas! Actually it's in there policy, so it's supposedly the rule for every Walmart :(

$50 a week is great. Nice job :)

I am shocked by that policy. I have yet to come into that problem. As far as I know all of the managers at our local Walmart are totally fine to match the store brand with Walmart's brand. I will have to ask the next time I am in. If that is the case that would be extremely annoying!! Thanks for the heads up.
